About Passages

PASSAGES – an Association for Guidance, Education & Support, founded in July 1998, is a voluntary, non-profit NGO, conceptualized by a core group of women.
Its objective is to prepare and strengthen women by education, guidance and support through the various ‘passages’ of their lives.

The Organisation creates awareness on issues concerning women through interactive Workshops and Forums designed to give insightful information. These are conducted regularly and facilitated by professionals from the respective field.

The founder members of PASSAGES, a team of like-minded, committed and dedicated women are all from diverse professions but linked by a common thread of interest, commitment and dedication, working together on various projects to benefit women and children.

Dr. Tarana Khubchandani, although an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon by profession, and an art gallery owner, devotes a lot of time as founder Director of PASSAGES, particularly to the Cancer project and fund raising. Stemming from her brush with cancer, she envisioned an Organisation, which would help create a confident, self-reliant and compassionate woman. Through PASSAGES, she is living this dream.
Kaya Shewakramani, as founder Director, brings in her efficiency and inter-personal skills for day-to-day management and co-ordination of the various events held by PASSAGES. She uses her experience in business and voluntary work over the years, to manage this non-profit Organisation, particularly finance and taxation. Her dynamism and devotion to the cause of PASSAGES have contributed to its growth.
Valerie Singhvi, a former medical journalist, contributes invaluably to the newsletter, other written literature, planning and administrative work. She has always been keenly interested in issues besetting womankind and PASSAGES was born out of the enrichment that she has experienced through her various “passages” of life and associations with others along the way. A blend of the modern and traditional woman, Valerie encourages PASSAGES’ growth, by example.
Dr. Coomi B. Singh (Late) was a keen researcher and social analyst. Her area of specialization was women’s studies. The ideals of PASSAGES were in keeping with her own, and had given a committed woman like herself, an opportunity for expression, to draw from her deep reservoir of love, and to share.
